Funny? yes! But with a severe undertone. The film is light hearted, but is so often seriously meant, so it actually is a little problem for the viewer. I found myself mostly the only one laughing in the theater seeing it, in a crowd surprisingly mainly male, whilst the trailer seem to tell us this is more of a woman's movie.

The film is advertised as a comedy about adultery, cottage cheese, blow jobs and elk-meat. Not a very good tag-line, if you ask me. I, however, choose to see the film as a black comedy taking up the problems of adultery, homosexuality, racism, love, loneliness, marriage-problems as well as the lack of understanding between men and women.

Such was the case for my anticipation of the William S Burroughs documentary that I had heard nothing about before it showing up in the SFF playbill. This guy was at least an anti-hero to any wierdster like myself who matured from the late 1950's to the early 1970's. But how to present such a life of what may be one of the most unrepresentable individuals from the 20th Century.

And from a first time filmmaker who was likely enjoying his Captain Crunch the morning the world learned of this infamous man's passing. How could Yony Leyser possibly know and appreciate an at best unknowable enigma from the weird subdivision in boomer-town's hall of fame.

What you get, fortunately, is a film that may tear through the fabric of any experienced viewers strategies on figuring out what beguiles them while viewing. Burroughs was so unpurposely misunderstood by default that he fits into a category of his own unconscious making. At best, I expected, in Burroughs' own words from the film, an 'unprecise' 'approximation' of the man whose infamy, in so many ways, took on a mass far, if not infinitely, greater than the addicted, queer, paranoid, but always genteel man he may have been … maybe.

In presentation, the film explodes past expectations of standard documentary forms like some kind of mutation that I think Burroughs would have loved. The formula, whatever it may be, affects in ways that award winning Alex Gibney did not capture nearly as evocatively in his screed on another modern hipster icon of excess, Hunter S Thompson. Throughout, the style contests your expectations in expansive ways you likely have not experienced. The always artistic, multi-textural presentation cannot possibly, as Burroughs life, be seen in one viewing. This is not unique in documentaries. What may be unique, however, is that other than those IMAX explorations of nature and beyond, the film may be the one documentary that demands to be seen in as big a venue as possible so you may best swim in its excesses and nuances. If the film gets enough attention beyond festivals to be considered award worthy, they may have to invent a category.

I don't know what I was expecting when I watched this for the first time. Do not expect a slasher/bloody/gory/saw type of film. It is more avant garde than anything else, and a lot of people aren't going to understand it - but isn't that the thing with violence? It's never clear cut is it? The movie uses a very strange way of telling the story, I don't want to give too much away, but it deals with flashbacks and flashforwards in the same time line. I've heard the film cost R40K to make, that is 1/3 of paranormal activity - so the film is rough around the edges, it's far from polished. The acting is good, Michael Thompson (The Detective) is great throughout.

I have noticed that this film has some International Distribution which is great for a little film like this.

Some people are going to hate this film, but the filmmakers haven't gone out to change the world or prove a point, they've just made a little film that is very interesting to watch, and if you view it under those terms, you are in for a treat.

Two survivors of a brutal attack by a masked man are interrogated by a police detective, the survivors both tell their account of grisly events more shocking than anyone could've imagined.

Unlike with other films that I'll just simply buy I decided to rent THE UNFORGIVING before buying it, this being a South African production shot on a shoe string budget I had to find out first whether or not this film was a professional job or did it look like it was shot with a cell phone camera.

When it got started I was pleasantly surprised by how well the film actually looked, the storyline itself immediately established the mood, set up the tone and maintained a steady pace throughout, it even at times came off as a SAW rip off but at a certain stage it started turning the whole concept on its head and went towards a more intriguing and exciting direction and at latter stages it seemed to merely reference SAW but it never at any time felt like a rip off.

The acting was very good considering this is practically a first time cast, the actors all did a very good job for them to be considered for future projects.

Also unlike both SAW and HOSTEL its not an all out gore fest, its actually pretty tame in the gore department, its more content with the plot than with gore but I can honestly say the climax is pretty intense.

Overall, THE UNFORGIVING can stand tall alongside SAW and HOSTEL as one of the best known films of its genre.

Let it be noted, that film is nothing like Source Code. No sir, not one bit. What is Source Code, you ask? Think something along the lines of Die Hard/Groundhog Day/Clue-The board game, in a nutshell.

So, what makes this film different? It's smart, focused, and suspenseful. Whereas in Unstoppable, we pretty much knew where the whole deal was heading. But we're not talking about that film. This is Source Code, and i'm going to tell you straight up, this flick is the best film this year SO FAR.

Source Code begins with our lead character, Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhall), waking up on a Chicago commuter train, opposite Christina (Michelle Monaghan) a woman whom we sense he's never met, talking to him as if they've known each other some time. Immediately after, we learn that he's a Helicopter pilot for the US Army, and that he in fact has never met this woman before. He has no clue how he's gotten to where he is, or why. All he knows is that this woman apparently knows him well, and thinks his name is 'Sean'. Confused by all of this, he goes to the bathroom, only to find that the person in the mirror isn't him, it's someone else. As us, the audience, try to process all of this information in our mind, the train abruptly explodes into flames, killing everyone on board.

The opening immediately attaches you to the story, with the great score, unsettling tone, and disorienting editing. It also leaves us with tons of questions: What the hell just happened? Who is Christina? Who is this 'Sean' Character? Why is Colter in this situation?

Then Colter wakes up again, but now in a dimly lit cement capsule, alone, talking to fellow soldier Goodwin. We discover that the commuter train he was just on was destroyed by a terrorist bomb earlier that day, and that there may be an even larger attack that could destroy Chicago. We also learn that he's a participant in an experimental Army intelligence program that allows him to continually relive the last eight minutes of one of the train's passengers life (Sean), in order to find the bomb and the terrorist who has threatened the larger attack in the heart of Chicago.

But, don't you know it, soon after they cross the town line, they experience automobile trouble.

A kindly truck driver offers to drive them to Chicago. It's an 18-wheeler. There's plenty of room.

After some slight hesitation (Couldn't Amber just take the bus?), they all agree to hitch a ride.

From the time they board the truck, set your watch for about 20 minutes. Great stuff here. (Suspend disbelief - you can do it - about their cellphone being unable to call for help).

The truck driver isn't kindly after all.

Where is he taking his passengers? What the heck is going on? The truck stops. What is outside? This isn't good...

Okay. The twenty minutes are up and you can begin to feel things slip away.

Frenetic camera work. Horrible pacing.

And then a "twist" that will have you slapping yourself in the forehead out of annoyance.

And then an ending that can only be described as shameful. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

Should you see it in the theater? I'll give this one a green light for the middle twenty minutes.

But please don't feel like you are missing out if you wait until the DVD release in March.

I absolutely loved Eric and Ernie, for me it was one of the best programmes over the festive season. Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise are an unforgettable comedy duo and never fail to make me laugh or cheer me up. Eric and Ernie is a funny and affectionate tribute, and is close to perfection. The only reason why it isn't quite is that I agree it was a little too short. That said, visually Eric and Ernie is lovingly crafted and accurate, while the music is beautiful. The script is in my view superb, Peter Bowker(who also penned the script for the unforgettable Occupation) has a real talent for writing dialogue, the story is beautifully structured and never less than immensely engaging and the chemistry between Eric and Ernie was a joy as well as their antics and routines. The drama is also wonderfully directed, and there is never a dull moment. The acting hits the nail right on the head, Daniel Rigby and Bryan Dick are both brilliant and the supporting cast with Vic Reeves, Victoria Wood and Reece Sheersmith are stellar. Overall, Eric and Ernie was brilliant, you can tell a lot of work and care went into this, and I am just amazed it turned out so well. 9.5/10

Like nearly everyone in the UK I am a huge fan of Morecambe and Wise. I truly believe that they were probably the greatest comedy double act ever. So I watched Victoria Woods biography of Eric and Ernie s early years with a little trepidation. I really shouldn't have worried. The BBC have obviously pulled out all the stops. Eric and Ernie is a master class in how to honour two show biz legends. The writing, direction and especially the performances were simply perfection. Daniel Rigby and Bryan Dick were spot on. They managed to show the friendship between Eric and Ernie without lapsing into parody. Special mention should be made of Vic Reeves who played Eric's dad, George. The part was played with quiet humour and dignity and Victoria wood was especially good as Eric's pushy mother. The only reason that I have given Eric and Ernie 9 out of 10 is that I had a small pang of regret when the credits rolled. I really wished that I could had maybe half an hour more. maybe showing more of the great years of Morecambe and Wise. Maybe one day they could make a sequel, but only if its up to this standard.

The diversity, intricacy and age of plant species in the Daintree Rainforest are greater than any other ecosystem in Australia, and many places around the world.

The Daintree rainforests is home to one of the highest populations of primitive flowering plants in the world. Of 19 primitive plant families on earth, 12 are found in the Daintree. A similar number of primitive families are found in all the rainforests of South America, including the Amazon Rainforest.

Every plant in the rainforest is placed in relation to other plants to serve a special role. Many plants cannot survive without the characteristics of another plant along side it.

It is impossible to list every plant and tree species in the Daintree Rainforest, so only a few notable plants are listed here.

Idiot Fruit
One of the most primitive of all the flowering plants in the Daintree Rainforest, this uniquely named plant was discovered only recently in 1970.
This plant has a quirky history relating to its discovery.
Four cattle belonging to local farmer John Nicholas from the Daintree Tea Company were unexpectedly found dead in their paddock. A veterinary officer was summoned to check the reasons for the death of the four cattle, and while he was at the property he witnessed the death of two more. Autopsies revealed the partly chewed remains of large seeds in the cattle's stomachs. After scientific examination, it was found that that the seeds produced a poison similar to strychnine, and they were responsible for the death of the cattle. These seeds were from the Idiot Fruit.

A member of the Cycad family, this palm produces highly toxic seeds.

Members of the ginger family often contain poison, so an intricate knowledge of the types of ginger plants is required before attempting to eat any. Watch out for these vines when hiking through the rainforest. The thin strands of vine are covered with small spikes that grab clothing, rip at skin, and generally tear up anything that comes within reach of them.

It has large leaves that look harmless, but they are covered with thousands of microscopic pricks that embed themselves into skin if touched. And these little blighters itch like crazy. So just remember not  to touch them because you'll go through a lot of pain and trouble!
